The robot mode is where the set truly shines. The build is solid, with articulation in the arms, legs, and head that gives the final model a lot of expression. The transformation is clever, but not as intuitive as one might expect — some parts may come loose, and the leg structure can collapse if not handled carefully. In vehicle mode, Bumblebee turns into a compact Beetle-style car, but this mode feels less refined — there are visual gaps, loose sections, and proportions that slightly break the illusion. Still, the charm and the effort to preserve LEGO's DNA are clear, and for fans of the franchise, this set has strong emotional and aesthetic appeal.

About the
set
LEGO 10338 Bumblebee marks another chapter in the ongoing collaboration between the LEGO Group and Hasbro, bringing together two toy industry giants in a nostalgic tribute. This is the second set in the Transformers line within the LEGO Icons collection, released in 2024. With 950 pieces, this model recreates the iconic Autobot character at a slightly smaller scale than the previous Optimus Prime, while still preserving the same attention to detail and nostalgic appeal. Standing at around 26 cm tall in robot mode, the build is fully articulated, transformable, and visually inspired by the G1 animated series. It's clearly designed for adult fans, both due to the complexity of the build and the inclusion of printed elements and a display stand.
Box design
The packaging follows the premium LEGO Icons style — dark background, prominent yellow and black color scheme, and a clear display of both robot and vehicle forms. The back of the box shows a step-by-step transformation overview, emphasizing the dual nature of the model. It’s a box worth keeping — collectible and well executed.
Instruction manual
The instruction manual is not just functional, it's also emotionally engaging. Early in the booklet, there's a short piece titled "A brave little 'Bee'", which highlights Bumblebee’s importance in the Transformers universe — his courage, loyalty, and role as an unlikely hero. Following that, a short message from the LEGO design team shares the challenge and excitement of translating such an iconic character into a transformable LEGO format, while remaining faithful to the G1 style. This introduction adds a personal, immersive layer to the building experience, creating an emotional connection before the first brick is even placed. It’s a small touch, but one that elevates the overall experience.
Stickers
Thankfully, stickers are kept to a minimum. Most of the important visual elements, like Bumblebee’s face or the Autobot symbol, come pre-printed. Only a few small stickers are used for vehicle-mode details, and they’re easy to apply. The balance between printed pieces and stickers is well achieved, which is especially important for a collector-focused set like this.
So…

LEGO 10338 Bumblebee is a heartfelt tribute to one of pop culture’s most beloved characters. While the vehicle mode lacks some polish, the robot figure is full of presence and personality. The transformation can be a bit delicate, but the engineering is clever and rewarding. It’s a set clearly made for adult fans, celebrating nostalgia, design, and the classic LEGO experience. It’s not perfect, but it’s undeniably charming — and that’s enough to earn it a spot on the shelf right next to Optimus Prime.
