Shrek is obviously the main figure of the series. He is the character everyone will want, and he really needed a mold or build that captured his silhouette properly. Without that, it would be hard to feel like we are looking at the most famous ogre in cinema. Fiona is just as important, because she completes the main duo and helps the series not depend only on Shrek. She is an essential character in this universe, and in minifigure form she brings that classic princess look, but still with Fiona’s own personality. Donkey is a must-have choice and probably one of the figures that will grab the most attention. He is the kind of character that depends a lot on expression and shape, so the execution really needed to be instantly recognizable. Puss in Boots is another natural highlight. He has appeared in LEGO form before, but here he makes perfect sense inside a series dedicated to Shrek. With his pose, boots, hat, and expression, he has a lot of potential to become one of the favorites of the collection. Lord Farquaad is one of the funniest choices. He is a very visually memorable character, and in LEGO form that contrast can work really well. The inclusion of the magic mirror as an accessory is exactly the kind of detail that helps the figure tell a story even on its own. Fairy Godmother and Prince Charming are great additions to bring in the more theatrical and exaggerated side of the movies. They have strong designs and help balance the series between heroes, villains, and comedic characters. Then we have characters like Pinocchio, Gingy, Thelonious, Big Bad Wolf, Merlin, and Dragon, which give the collection much more depth. This is where the series stops feeling like just “the obvious picks” and starts feeling like a proper celebration of the Shrek universe.
