Kai’s Dragon Mech isn’t big, and it doesn’t try to compete with the larger mechs in the theme, but for an 85-piece set, it has a lot of personality. The idea of mixing a small mech with dragon elements works nicely, especially with the wings and clawed hands, which instantly give it a more aggressive silhouette. The cockpit is basic, but it does exactly what it needs to do: put Kai in control and create a quick battle scene. The poseable legs help bring the model to life, and the 360-degree rotating upper body is a simple but fun function, especially for a set designed around kids and instant play value.
Visually, it’s a small mech, but still recognizable. Kai’s red color scheme, the wings, and the dragon details keep it from feeling like just another generic mini mech. Of course, at this price point, you can’t expect a super technical or highly detailed build, but at this scale, it works very well.
For me, the biggest strength is the balance between price and content. For €9.99, you get a quick build, a small battle mech, and three minifigures. It’s exactly the kind of set that’s easy to pick up without thinking too much, especially if you collect NINJAGO or want to complete the characters from the season.
Minifigure review
The minifigures are the real highlight of this set. Getting 3 minifigures in a €9.99 set is already pretty good, especially when the lineup includes two important heroes and one villain. Kai comes with two swords and fits perfectly inside the mech, clearly making him the main figure of the set. It’s always nice to get another version of Kai, especially when he’s tied so directly to the build. Sora is also a great inclusion. She comes with two swords and helps strengthen the ninja side, making the set feel less like just “Kai versus a monster.” For anyone following Dragons Rising, it’s nice to keep seeing Sora included in these smaller sets. The Earth Monster is what gives the box its conflict. The clawed hands give it a wilder look and immediately create a battle dynamic. It isn’t the most complex minifigure, but it works really well as a battle pack enemy.

For Dragons Rising fans, minifigure collectors, or anyone who enjoys these small entry-level mechs, this is a very easy set to recommend. It’s simple, affordable, and fun, and sometimes that’s exactly what a good NINJAGO set needs to be.
