This is one of those NINJAGO sets that doesn’t need to be a giant mech, a huge dragon, or a weapon-packed vehicle to have impact. Monastery of Spinjitzu has a different kind of strength: it is an iconic location, full of meaning for the story and for anyone who has followed NINJAGO since the beginning.
Visually, the set works really well. The architecture has that classic oriental style, with red roofs, white walls, golden details, and a very clean presence. It is not a huge enclosed temple, but more of a playset that opens up to make play easier, while still keeping a strong façade when displayed.
The training courtyard is one of the most interesting areas. You get battle platforms for the ninja, a spinning sword training station, and even a fruit-cutting training area, with a banana and an apple to knock down. These are simple features, but very much in the spirit of NINJAGO, because they turn the monastery into a living space, not just a nice-looking façade.
The tea room also brings a fun detail, with two seats and a hidden trap activated by a lever. And then there is the NINJAGO history mural, which is an excellent detail for fans, because it reinforces the Legacy side of the set and the idea of paying tribute to the early seasons.
The biggest strength is definitely the balance between display and play. Closed, it looks great on the shelf, with a recognizable silhouette and strong presence. Opened up, it becomes a training and battle area, with several places to position the figures. It works both as a nostalgic display piece and as a complete playset.
Minifigure review
The minifigure selection is one of the best reasons to own this set. Getting Wu, the four original ninja, Lloyd, Nya, and Wyplash in one box is really strong. For anyone who wanted a simple way to bring the classic NINJAGO team together, this set was almost perfect. Master Wu is essential in a set like this. It would not make sense to have the Monastery of Spinjitzu without him, because he is the figure that connects everything to the training, the origin of the ninja, and the identity of the location. The ninja also work really well in their Legacy versions. Kai, Jay, Cole, and Zane represent the original team, while Lloyd and Nya complete the hero side. They are not the most detailed or rare versions ever, but as a group they have a lot of value, mainly because they tell the core story of NINJAGO. Wyplash is a great villain choice. He brings back the Skulkin threat and gives the set that early-season flavor. He is not just a generic enemy, he is a direct reference to the beginning of the series, which fits the Legacy concept perfectly. And of course, the 4 Golden Weapons are almost as important as the minifigures. Having the sword, nunchucks, scythe, and shurikens in the same set gives it a huge nostalgic weight and makes the box feel like a real celebration of the first years of NINJAGO.

Monastery of Spinjitzu is one of the most important sets from the NINJAGO Legacy line. It is not just beautiful, it is symbolic. It represents the beginning, the ninja training, Master Wu, the Golden Weapons, and that classic energy that made so many people fall in love with NINJAGO. As a build, it works really well because it balances display and play. It has a beautiful façade, interior areas, simple features, training spaces, and enough room to create scenes with the figures. As a collector’s set, it becomes even stronger thanks to the 8 minifigures and the 4 Golden Weapons. For classic NINJAGO fans, this is a essential. It is one of those sets that does not need to be the biggest or most complex to feel important, because the value is in what it represents. The Monastery of Spinjitzu is home, origin, and nostalgia in one build, for me it’s a PERFECT SET.
