About
The build moves through a sturdy Technic chassis with clear subassemblies for the rear axle, front axle and cockpit, keeping the drivetrain path to the V6 visible. In hand, the model has presence and convincing shaping for Technic, it captures the 9X8’s broken surfaces, and the decision to omit a windscreen reads better in person than in photos. Functionally you get independent suspension, dual steering, and easy access to the mechanics by lifting body sections, including the front hood, while the phosphorescent lights deliver a strong night effect. The main compromise is the lack of a gearbox, often expected at this size, and the dark bluish grey palette which can feel flat without good lighting. Even so, for line fidelity, scale and build experience, it is a solid display and an engaging build.
Box design
The box follows the adult Technic template, about 48 × 37.8 × 11.2 cm, with a clean hero shot of the car on track. The format protects the long panels and suspension modules well and keeps the sticker sheet flat.
Instruction manual
Includes a printed manual and a LEGO Builder digital version. The sequence is logical, with short steps through chassis and body modules, clear arrows for suspension arm orientation, and helpful callouts when closing panels. The official PDF appears as a single file, confirming a linear build flow.
Stickers
The livery relies heavily on stickers for the rear light bar, underbody cabling and several official graphics. Most placements are on tiles and flat panels, so alignment with tweezers is easy. The visual highlight is the glow elements, which are not stickers and really lift the look in low light. Purists may dislike the sticker count, if you prioritise appearance, the end result pays off.
So…

The 42156 PEUGEOT 9X8 delivers scale, accuracy and core functions, with extra drama from the glow in the dark lights. If you want deeper engineering with a gearbox, there are more complex Technic options, if you want a convincing shelf piece with solid construction and enough mechanics to show off, this is an easy yes, even better on discount and especially if you are a racing fan like me.
