About
This is one of those sets that speaks directly to anyone who loves Classic Space. The idea of turning the classic logo into a physical LEGO model is excellent, because you are not just building a spaceship or a figure, you are building a symbol from LEGO history.
Visually, the strongest point is definitely the logo itself. The yellow planet with the red orbit works really well in brick-built form, and the small spaceship crossing the scene adds movement to the display. It is simple, but it has that instant “ok, this is Classic Space” impact.
The composition works nicely, especially as a small desk or shelf display piece. The separation between the base, the logo, and the spaceship is clear, and the set looks great next to other Space models, like the Galaxy Explorer, Classic Space astronauts, or even newer retro-inspired Space sets.
The weakest part is the base. It is quite simple and could have used more texture or small mechanical details to push the Classic Space aesthetic a bit further. Some transparent elements, grills, or small controls would have helped make the base feel more alive, as it ends up looking a little empty compared to the logo itself.
Still, as a display concept, it works. This is not a set about complex building techniques or a long building experience. It is a small nostalgia object, made to be displayed and to represent one of LEGO’s most beloved eras.

Minifigure review
The included microfigure is the blue Spacebaby, with air tanks and the Classic Space logo. It is a very cute piece and fits the set perfectly, because it immediately reinforces the connection to the Space theme.
That said, I understand the criticism that a new color would have made the set feel even more special. The blue Spacebaby had already appeared before, so an exclusive color would have given the model much more collector value.
Even so, it is impossible to deny the charm of this figure. It is small, simple, but very effective. For anyone collecting Classic Space astronauts, Spacebabies, or anything connected to LEGO Space, it is still a very appealing inclusion.

So…

Retro Space Explorer is a small, simple set clearly made for Classic Space fans. The main value is in the concept: turning the classic logo into a display model, with a small spaceship and a blue Spacebaby completing the scene. It is not perfect. The base could have had more detail, and a microfigure in a new color would have made the set much more special. But as a nostalgia piece, it works really well. For anyone who loves LEGO Space, this is one of those small exclusives that feels good to have in the collection. Not because of the complexity of the build, but because of the symbol it represents.
