Minifigure review

This set includes two minifigures: Kai and a lone fisherman. While the fisherman is a fun addition, complete with his small boat and a printed vest, Kai is the real highlight. Not only does his minifigure feature detailed, battle-worn armor and a custom dual-molded headwrap, but he also comes with a unique elemental blade that hasn’t appeared in any previous NINJAGO set. The weapon’s design feels like a blend between a ceremonial artifact and a tool of war, sharp, jagged, and visually stunning. It's the kind of accessory that makes this minifigure instantly collectible, especially for longtime fans of the character.

About the

set

From the start, The Fire Knight Mech feels like a prestige LEGO release. The build centers around a fiery mech piloted by Kai, facing off against a slithering sea monster that coils menacingly around a rocky shoreline. What immediately sets it apart, beyond the bold design, is the inclusion of a limited-edition poster, tucked inside the box. It’s not just a throwaway insert. It’s beautifully illustrated and feels like LEGO is actively appealing to the older fan base that grew up with NINJAGO and now wants something display-worthy beyond the bricks.

The mech itself is masterfully built, standing at 26 cm tall and 24 cm wide, it commands attention. It's solid, tall, and decked out in flame-inspired armor that gives it a heroic presence. The cape-like shoulder design, the golden details, and the massive spear all contribute to an imposing silhouette that looks just as good posed on a shelf as it does in a kid’s play session.

On the other side of the scene, the sea monster offers a compelling contrast, organic, sinuous, and built with a clever mix of jointed tentacles and textured plates. Both figures attach to a display base that mimics a shoreline, but can also be detached for dynamic play.

This isn’t just a battle scene, it’s a snapshot of a story. And the fact that it comes directly after the Monstrosity Series ties it into a larger narrative that fans can recognize and relive.

Box design

The packaging for The Fire Knight Mech deserves its own spotlight. Departing from the usual vibrant, action-packed NINJAGO box art, this one takes a bold new direction: it’s more refined, more focused and clearly designed with adult collectors in mind. The front features stylized artwork, with a painterly touch and clean typography that makes it feel more like a limited-edition “art box” than a toy. It’s reminiscent of high-end LEGO sets like those in the Icons or Ideas lines. This is a first for the NINJAGO theme and hopefully a sign of where LEGO is headed with these story-driven builds. It’s the kind of box you’ll want to keep, not just recycle.

Instruction manual

The instruction booklet is thick but well-paced, breaking down the build into intuitive steps. The artwork and layout are consistent with LEGO’s premium sets, and there’s even a short intro that sets the tone for what you’re building. In the last page, we have a little illustration of the model planning, something quite unique.

Stickers

One of the best things about this set? Minimal stickers. Most of the key design elements are printed, allowing builders to focus on the build itself without the stress of aligning tiny decals. The few stickers included are well-placed and easy to apply, mainly adding texture to the mech’s armor and cockpit. For a set at this price point, LEGO made the right call here.

So…

The Fire Knight Mech is a standout release that elevates the NINJAGO theme into new territory. With its roots in the Monstrosity Series, a jaw-dropping mech design, a richly detailed sea monster, and thoughtful extras like an exclusive poster and a beautifully crafted art box, this set hits every mark. Whether you’re a longtime NINJAGO fan, a mech collector, or just looking for a build that feels more like a scene from a movie than a toy on a shelf, this set delivers. And with that unique Kai minifigure and his never-before-seen blade, it might just become one of the most sought-after sets of the year. In short: it’s bold, it’s collectible, and it’s one hell of a display piece.
