This dragon has the kind of visual impact that many 2016 NINJAGO sets did really well, it feels like a toy, it feels like a creature, and it still works nicely on display. The mix of green, gold, and translucent orange details gives it a strong identity and makes it stand out easily on a shelf.
The body is nicely articulated, with a poseable head, mouth, legs, claws, and tail. LEGO also gave it a saddle for Lloyd, golden chain reins, and a split tail with 2 stud shooters, adding a lot of play value without hurting the look too much. But the biggest visual highlight is definitely the printed fabric wings. They give the dragon scale, presence, and that dramatic effect every dragon needs. Today, with so many NINJAGO dragons built mostly from bricks, this fabric-wing style gives it a very specific old-school charm, and it still works really well.
It’s not the most technical or refined dragon in the theme, especially compared to more recent releases, but it has great energy. It’s big, colorful, easy to recognize, and captures the Skybound vibe very well.
Minifigure review
The minifigure lineup is strong and very tied to the season. You get Skybound Lloyd, who naturally fits as the dragon rider, and Ghost Cole, which is always a special version in NINJAGO’s story. On the villain side, you get Bucko, Cyren, and Battle Doubloon, instantly bringing the pirate atmosphere of Skybound into the set. For collectors, there’s real value here: according to Brickset, the set includes 5 minifigures, with 3 of them unique to this set. Battle Doubloon is probably the villain highlight, because he’s exclusive and has a very distinctive presence. Cyren is also interesting because she appears in only a few sets, helping make this lineup feel more complete than just “Lloyd versus a generic pirate.”

The Green NRG Dragon is one of those NINJAGO dragons that has aged with personality. It doesn’t have the most advanced engineering compared to modern dragons, but it has presence, strong colors, striking wings, and a very solid minifigure selection. If you’re a fan of the Skybound era, or if you collect NINJAGO dragons, this is still a very interesting set. The value is in the complete package, a large dragon, strong aesthetics, and relevant minifigures. It has that classic NINJAGO feeling, simple in concept, but very effective on the shelf. I’m not the biggest LEGO Dragons fan but I love this one!
