Retail Store
Universo Encantado, at 57 Rua Aurora do Lima in Viana do Castelo, is a LEGO-focused shop that calls itself “probably the most complete in Portugal.” Open since 5 May 2018, it stocks current sets, discontinued rarities, loose minifigures, school supplies and even LEGO Wear clothing. Beyond shelves of sealed boxes, the store has display cases filled with built models—some on a grand scale, such as a 70,000-piece replica of the Sanctuary of Santa Luzia—turning the space into a mini tourist attraction. The team, made up of devoted AFOLs, is always ready to advise both collectors and the merely curious, and they use social media to announce restocks and new releases. Whether you’re hunting for a rare set, want to see impressive builds up close, or simply crave a shot of LEGO culture, this shop is a must-visit in northern Portugal.
Last Sunday I dropped by Universo Encantado in Viana do Castelo, and it’s hands-down the most distinctive LEGO shop I’ve seen in Portugal. Marcelo, the owner, is a true brick fanatic—his passion shows the moment you spot the window displays he built himself, featuring scenes from Vikings to Harry Potter.
Step inside and he greets you personally, unfailingly polite and friendly. The entrance is a floor-to-ceiling diorama packed with minifigures from multiple themes, and right away you can admire heavy-hitters like the Saturn V, the Up House, the Daily Bugle and more.
Shelves are crammed with both display models and sealed boxes. Retired sets are everywhere—Star Wars, Icons, Ninjago, Creator, you name it. I even spotted one of the first LEGO Art sets (the Beatles), the world-map megaset, The International Space Station (ISS) and plenty of rare goodies you don’t normally see: T-shirts, travel bags, wallets and mugs.
The store partners with Light My Bricks, so you can pick up lighting kits to make your favourite builds shine.
If you’re in northern Portugal—or visiting from abroad—it’s worth the detour. Huge thanks to Marcelo for the warm welcome and for sharing his story. It was my first visit, but definitely not my last.
